Winston Sasser, age 71, of Dozier, passed away on August 8, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Keith Morgan officiating and special music provided by Susan Carver. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Old Union Cemetery in the Weedville Community near Dozier. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Beck, Jerrod Beck, Lamar Douglas, Lavon Douglas, Jeff Gulley, and Matthew O’Neal. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Loretta Sasser; children, Jannie Smith of McKenzie, Christy Gay (Rex) of Andalusia, Chris O’Neal of Bessemer, and Matthew O’Neal (Darcey); siblings, H.J. Sasser and Audrey Sasser Flowers; grandchildren, Jana Beck Grimes (J.J.), Andrew Beck (Ashley), Jerrod Beck (Samantha), Nichole Green, Jessica O’Neal, Jacob Lewis, and Matthew O’Neal; great-grandchildren, Jaden and Kenley Grimes, J.T., Clara, Hunter and Hayden Beck (twins), Saben and Jordan Little, Konner and Kylee Beck, Wyatt and Jace Beck, Alyssa Beck, and Maebe and Jasper Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chapel Chapman Sasser and Annie Belle Caples Sasser; son, Mark O’Neal; a grandson, Aaron Gay; and siblings, John Wilson Sasser, Max Sasser, Henry Sasser, Alice MaCharge, Ruby Mansfield, Pierce Sasser, and Mary Southern. Winston spent many years working as a logger and later as a truck driver. He was also a master gardener and dedicated caretaker of pecan trees, known far and wide as the “Mater King” for growing the best tomatoes around. Gifted with strong math skills, he was a sharp and competitive domino player. He was also known as a “big joker” who loved to laugh and make others laugh, always playing tricks and jokes on family and friends. Winston will be remembered for his generous spirit, joyful sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family and community. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him and greatly grieving his passing is his little dog, “Tippy”. “Tippy” was Winston’s side kick!
