William Frank Stone, age 77, of Andalusia, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 18th, at Frank’s residence overlooking the family’s horse field (14331 Bass Bridge Road, Andalusia). The family will receive friends outdoors at the home one hour prior to the service. Frank’s “forever friend,” Brother Dewayne Smith, will officiate, and his son-in-law, Lee Brown, along with other close friends, will share special memories. Special music will be provided by his daughter, Sierra and the Covingon County Sheriff Blake Turman. Military honors and final rites will be bestowed by the U.S. Army and the Covington County Sheriff’s Department. The Covington County Sheriff's Mounted Posse will serve as honorary pallbearers. Keahey Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Left to cherish Frank’s memory, the love of his life and devoted wife, Sharon Stone; daughters, Sierra Brown (Lee) and their children, Anthony, Melany, and Bullet Brown, all of Fulton, Mississippi; and Vannah Dexter (Nathan) of Carmel, Indiana. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Teresa Horton of Niceville, Florida, and Vicki Barr (Jerry) of Haleyville, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Swims of Haleyville, Alabama, and Michael Swims (Lisa) of Millbrook, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy Howell and his parents, William Stone and Ola Pugh Stone.
Frank was a lifelong equestrian, with a deep love for the Appaloosa breed, which he raised and trained for many years. He was actively involved with the (WNC) Western North Carolina Wagon Train for several years and during that time he served on the association’s board and as Wagon Master at times. He also served as a pastor for various churches for over 25 years and was a member of the (CMA) Christian Motorcycle Association and at times was the association's Chaplain. In 2010, Frank began a hard battle with cancer; he approached that battle just as he did everything, he fought the good fight with his faith and strong determination, he was a warrior in that battle.
Frank was an Army veteran and professionally dedicated his life to law enforcement and emergency medical services, working as a dispatcher, paramedic, and jailer for over 25 years with the Winston County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Haleyville—all while maintaining his work as a farrier, a trade he practiced for more than 50 years.
After moving to Covington County during their semi-retirement years, Frank and Sharon became devoted members of the Covington County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.
Frank was known for his cowboy persona—always wearing his red bandanna and western attire—but beyond the image, Frank was the real thing: a true cowboy.
