Mr. Walter Leonard Dixon of the Carolina Community passed away Monday, June 22, 2020, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2020, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Keahey Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, Michael Dixon (Pauline) of Luverne, AL; and longtime caregiver, Nancy Harris of Andalusia; many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Pleasant Home High School, Mr. Dixon served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. A 1957 graduate of Auburn University with a Master's Degree in Mathematics. He taught at Andalusia School from 1960 to 1962 and then at Satellite High School on the East Coast of Florida from 1963 to 1993. He enjoyed his retirement and moved back to the Carolina community in 1995. He especially loved “just piddling around the house and his woods”. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marie Dixon in 2018, a brother, Robert “Bob” Dixon and two sisters, Maggie Hammack and Mildred Shaw.
