Lee Roy Kirkland, age 89, passed away in Andalusia Hospital,
after a brief illness on Friday, September 20, 2024, to rest in the
loving arms of his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by
his mother, father, brothers, and sisters and a daughter, Marie Kirkland. He left behind his loving
wife, Mary Kirkland of 27 years, and her children Ronald Adams
(Debra), Judy Bracewell (Alan), Bobby Blackburn, and Janice
Barron, as well as many grandchildren, and great grandchildren
that were devoted to him.
Lee retired from the Army, after two tours in Vietnam and earned
a Purple Heart for his bravery. He also taught ROTC at Auburn
University. He owned and operated an Electrical business,
worked for Amoco, and retired from the Army Corp of Engineers
as a Park Ranger. After retirement, he was a “Host” at Open
Pond Recreation Area. He was fluent in many languages, very
capable in many trades and was always helping anyone in need.
Lee enjoyed traveling, square dancing, watching Gunsmoke, and
spending time with his family, but his favorite past time was
playing Dominoes. He was a member of Lindsey Baptist Church
and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Keahey Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Keahey Funeral Home. Pastor Frankie McVay will be officiating. Interment will follow in Stone Lake Gardens with full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Keahey Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
