Born July 20, 1930, in Red Level, Alabama to Joseph Wilson Cook, Sr. and Vessie Lowry Cook, Joe Jr. attended Red Level School and at age 16 was one of the school bus drivers! He played basketball and was the catcher on the baseball team. He started attending Fairmount Baptist Church as a teenager and later served as a Deacon. Joe loved getting things done, the year after he graduated Red Level High School, he was instrumental in the school forming a football team and the Quarterback Club. He married the love of his life, Joyce Glidewell Cook and later the couple moved to Andalusia. Joe was self taught in business accounting; he worked for 32 years at the Alatex in the accounting department and then went to Price Oil as an accounting bookkeeper. In 1970, he joined the Andalusia Civitan Club. Later Joyce joined and for years, they were vital members. Through the years, Joe served in every officer position and always volunteered to help hang the Civitan’s American flags throughout Andalusia. After moving to Andalusia, Joe and Joyce became member of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia. Joe always led by example. He will be greatly missed and was a huge Braves fan!
