Mr. John Abe Garner, III. of Ariton passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at his residence. He was 65.
A memorial service will be held 5 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Keahey Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Glenda Davis will officiate.The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. until time of services.
A 1972 graduate of Ariton High School, he received his Master's Degree in Education from Troy University. He began his teaching career near home working with the Barbour, Dale and Henry county school systems, later relocating to Houston, Texas where he remained until retirement. In 2012, he returned to Alabama to be near family; even in retirement he stayed active by working with inmates in the Bullock County Prison to help them prepare for transition from incarceration to being independent.. He also volunteered with the Houston County Rescue Mission delivering meals to families in need. He had a true servant's heart.
Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Ann Wayman of Ariton; Michael (Linda) Garner of Brundidge; niece, Alisa (Wayne) Thrash of Ariton; nephew, several great and great great nieces and nephews and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Abe Garner, Jr. and Miriam Grimes Garner.
