John Quincy Cook, known to many as “Johnny” age 87 of McKenzie, Alabama, passed away December 8, 2025. Johnny was born on September 11,1938 to Bar Carse and Beulah Cook, their twelfth child.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bar Carse and Beulah Cook, and eleven siblings and their spouses.
Left to cherish his memory, loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Smith Cook, their children John “Frankie” Cook (Patti) of McKenzie, AL, Sherri Cook Stallworth (Miller) Cantonment, FL, James “Jimbo” Cook (Kimberly) of McKenzie, AL, Kerri Cook Harper (Don) of McKenzie AL, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home in Evergreen, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Rev. Fred Stallworth will officiate with a eulogy given by son-in-law, Don Harper. Interment will follow the service at the Antioch PH Church Cemetery (3362 Co. Hwy. 24, Red Level, AL). Active pallbearers will be his sons James “Jimbo” Cook and John “Frankie” Cook, and Grandsons: James “Cal” Cook, Zack Cook, Patrick Cook, and Steven Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Harper, Miller Stallworth, D.J. Buckhault, Jon Moore, William Noah Harper, Kaleb Richard, and Hunter Allred.
He was an innovator and designer who could bridge creativity with technical skill. By trade he was a fabricating welder, and boilermaker. He enjoyed making knives and there are no words to describe how much he loved a family gathering including a warm fire with lots of stories and laughter.
