James King Obituary

James Earl King, a lifelong resident of Clio, Alabama went to be with his Savior on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Sykes Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Sykes Creek Church for one hour prior to the services. Rev. Kenneth Andrews will officiate the services. Interment will follow in the Sykes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Russell King, Connor King, Blake Dawkins, Wesley McCraney, Clint Battles, and Eric Waters. The honorary pallbearers will be the men of the church. Keahey Funeral Home of Clio is entrusted with arrangements.

Left to cherish his memory, daughter, Sharon Dawkins (Larry) of Ariton, Al., sons, Ronnie King of Clio, Al., and Danny King of Clio, Al.; brother, Samuel King (Pat) of Dothan, Al.; sisters, Sallie Clackley of Panama City, Fl., Faye Greathouse (Larry) of Wicksburg, Al., Patricia Berry of Slocomb, Al., Diane Battles of Slocomb, Al., grandchildren, Russell Earl King (Falon ), Heather King (Eric Waters), Whitney McCraney (Wesley), Connor King (Hannah), Blake Dawkins (Morgan); great grandchildren, Chloe Grace Waters, Emma Claire King, Cash McCraney and Carson King; daughter-in-law, Theresa King and a special friend, Janice Baker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Capps King in 2003, son Rusty King and Rickey King, brothers, Wayne King, Clarence King, Jr., Wendel King and Johnny King. James Earl served in the Alabama Army National Guard and retired as a Foreman with the Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a faithful servant to his Lord and a vital member of Sykes Creek Baptist Church.  A wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather, his kids and the kids in the community all called him “Pops”. He was a highly enthusiastic fan of the Ariton Purple Cats and the University of Alabama, loving every sport they both played. He was a gentle, loving soul, a true southern gentleman, James Earl King will be greatly missed.
