Obituary
J.D. West, age 90 of Red Level and formerly of Milton, Florida died in an area nursing home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. 

Mr. West was preceded in death by his wife Gladys West, his biological father Darcie West which passed away when he was an infant. His mother, Kennie Mae Jeter Kirkland, his brother Charles Kirkland, sisters Dorothy Mae Williamson and Lorraine Fowler, brother-in-law JD Williamson, his step-father Sylvester Kirkland, his daughters Judy Ann Carr and Terri Parker, son-in-law Ken Parker, daughter-in-law Elaine Madden, his son Ronald West and grandson Tommy Brooks. 

He is survived by his daughter Barbara (Ronnie) Brooks of Opp, sons Howard (Dorthy) West of Red Level, Danny (Marlynn) West of Milton, Harry Madden of Milton, and Keith (Cheryl) Madden of Milton, Sister Shirley Shaw of MS, brother-in-law Leroy Fowler of Red Level and Son-in-law Earnest Carr of Pensacola. He also leaves behind grand-children: Sabrina (Adam) Cobb, Douglas (Jessica) West, Amanda (Brandon) Cohen, Daniel (Terra) Madden, Jimbo West, Timbo West, Jessica (Wes) Glisson, James Johns, Tammy (Jeremy) Sasser, Ronnie Brooks, Jr., Donnie Brooks, Shannon Carr, Bobby (Angie) Carr, Darlene (Charlie) Chavers, Scooter, Ryan Madden, Dr. Jamie (Shon) Congleton, James Rhymes and Jason Madden as well as special friends Ruth and Richard Moore, Bobby Green as well as his beloved dog, Cody. He is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  

JD was born December 28, 1930 in Bay Minette, Alabama.  He worked alongside his family as a farmer and at a local textile business.  He then served in the United States Army for 4 years.  During this time he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and in Germany as a truck driver.  After his honorable discharge from the Army, he then moved to Pensacola where he raised his family and started working locally before becoming an over-the-road truck driver in his later years with his wife Gladys where they worked side-by-side.  They retired from McKenzie Tank Lines after many years of service. He also loved to tend to his farm and spend time with his family.  He was a talented musician who loved to play bluegrass and gospel music.  He moved back to Red Level to live with his son and daughter-in-law after the death of his wife, Gladys.  Here, he lived out the rest of his days surrounded by his family. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Andalusia Health and Andalusia Manor where he was a resident since October 2020.  

Services will be held Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 3 pm at Keahey Funeral Home, 55 South Lockhart, Alabama.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at the Wing Cemetery.  Adam Cobb will officiate. Eulogy will be given by Ronnie Brooks.

Pallbearers will be Douglas West, Daniel Madden, Aidan West, Brandon Cohen, Jeremy Sasser and Richie Moore.  Honorary Pallbearer will be his little buddy and great-grandson Noah Cobb.
