Dr. Steve Crouch, MD

Dr. Madison Stevens “Steve” Crouch, age 75 and originally from Auburn, AL, passed away unexpectedly at his Andalusia residence on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. 

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM at the Keahey Funeral home on Friday, May 31. Visitation will resume at noon, Saturday, June 1 until the Liturgy Service commences at 1PM at the same location. 

Steve will be remembered by his loving wife of 49 years, Dawn Capdepon Crouch; his eldest son Kelly; his daughter Dominique Crisler, her husband Jason and grandson Dustin; his son Stephen, his wife Dr. Martha Welander and granddaughter Fredricia; and his youngest daughter Caroline Ruder, her husband Heath and grandson Jake. 

Steve was born April 9, 1949, at Drake Infirmary on the Auburn University campus. He attended Auburn High School and was a Comer Medal recipient at Auburn University where he graduated with a B.S. in pre-med. He received his Medical Doctorate from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. During his career, he was board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine.  

In 2005, Steve was one of 10 physicians working the only open emergency department within a 90-mile radius of Gulfport, MS during and after Hurricane Katrina. He also practiced at Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, GA throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the words of his good friend and colleague, Dr. Steve Patton – 

“His death, though unexpected, was likely quick and painless. It was not preceded by a long, ugly, painful and chronic illness which we all fear.

Though he didn’t get to say goodbye, we all know he would have expressed thankfulness for the life he had lived, all he had done…years of dedicated work, patients helped, lives saved, sacrifices made, friendships, family and most of all his wife Dawn. What a blessed marriage he had; a life well-lived.”
