Doward Odom Obituary

Doward Durwood Odom age 71, of Red Level, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home on May 28, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on March 19, 1955 in Covington County. Doward was a loving father, grandfather, and cherished brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

Doward, proudly served his country for 20 years in the National Guard, demonstrating dedication, honor, and commitment throughout his years of service. He spent 30 years as a truck driver, known as “Red Dog”, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the friendships he made along the road. 

 

Outside of work, he was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide football and rarely missed watching a game. Saturdays during football season were among his favorite time cheering on the Tide with family and friends. 

 

He will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, unwavering loyalty and the love he shared with those around him, his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

 

Doward is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Marie Gillum Odom, two sons, Tracy Odom and Victor Odom (Monica), special daughter Jennifer Vickery (Mike), two special nieces Donna Archie (Kevin) and Teresa Williams (Randy), five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, two brothers Fred Odom (Kathy) and Dallas Odom (Dana) and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Doward was preceded in death by his father, RD Odom and Olene Etheridge (Wayne), brothers Tony Odom, Sheldon Odom, and Terry Etheridge. 

 

Serving as pallbearers are Tim Odom, Chris Odom, Richard Marler, Michael Scruggs, Curt Kervin, George “Chico” Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Lucas Odom and Thomas Green. 

 

A graveside funeral service honoring Doward's life will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 am, at the Stone Lake Garden Cemetery, Andalusia, Alabama. The family will be receiving guests at 28980 Main Street, Red Level, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
