Dewey "Gene" Hagler

Dewey "Gene" Hagler, age 81 of Blue Springs, Alabama passed away June 3, 2024, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel of Clio. The family will receive friends at Keahey Funeral Home one hour prior to the services. Rev. Buddy Ward will officiate the services. Special music will be provided by Beverly and Tommy Danford and Meredith and Rev. Jason Waddell.

Left to cherish his memory, loving wife of 44 years, Betty Shipes Hagler; sisters, Carolyn Livingston of Blue Springs and Audrea Missildine (Tom) of Banks, AL; stepchildren, Margie Phillips (Charlie) of Fortson, GA; Glenda Balkcom (Ralph) of Eufaula, AL; Bruce Downs (Paula) of Abbeville, AL; grandchildren, Tucker Hagler of Headland, AL; Kevin Bass of Headland, AL; Rodney Dansby of Headland, AL; Jason Hartzog of Opelika, AL; Katherine McWilliams of Niceville, FL; Emily Downs of Columbus, GA; Megan Gray of Columbus, GA. 17 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his "baby dog" Bella.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey "Elmer" Hagler and Flora Elizabeth Shehane Hagler and his two children, Jeffery Gene Hagler and Mendy Ann Murphy and a grandson, Blake Downs.

Gene was a lifelong resident of Blue Springs, Alabama. He retired from West Point Pepperell in Abbeville and was a longtime member of Pine Level Baptist Church. The family extends a special word of thanks to his caregivers from Southern Care Hospice. Memorials maybe made in Gene's honor to the charity of one's choice.
