Mary Baxter Obituary

Miss Mary Ellene Baxter passed away peacefully at her residence in Clio on October, 8, 2018. She was 96.

Miss Baxter graduated from Barbour County High School in 1940. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy State University and a Master’s Degree from Auburn University. Miss Baxter taught 3rd Math at Clio Elementary School for 46 years.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Jackie Weston Herring, Carolyn Weston Williams, Beth LaBudde Evans, Frank R. LaBudde, III., Laura Baxter Boyle, Anna Baxter Champagne and Allison Hartley and a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Ann Baxter; and her caregivers, Patricia Sapp and Vince Govan who became like family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woods and Addie Baxter; her sisters, Burmah LaBudde, Miriam B. Green, Frances Annette Baxter, Joan McKinnon; her brother, James Woods Baxter; her niece, Molly Hansen; and her nephew, John Woods Weston.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Pea River Presbyterian Church cemetery. Rev. Brewer Ames will officiate. Keahey Funeral Home of Clio is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flower's contributions can be made to the George C. Wallace Heritage Association (PO Box 521 Clio, AL 36017) or Pea River Presbyterian Church (W. I. C.) in Clio ( 2950 Louisville St, Clio, AL 36017).
