John Sanford Boyd, 88, passed away April 20, 2017, at home in the presence of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 pm, April 22, 2017, at Mt Zion Baptist Church, Louisville, AL, with Rev. Curtis Rich officiating, Keahey Funeral Home directing. Mr. Boyd was born and lived his life on the land that five generations of Boyds lived and worked on in Mt. Zion Community. He attended Mt. Zion Elementary School and graduated from Louisville High School. He was a medic in the U.S. Army in Germany in the 1950s and he was proud to earn an accommodation for driving an ambulance over 6000 miles without an accident. After military service, he returned to run the family farm and a mechanic shop until he retired. He loved fishing, going to the beach, Louie Lamour westerns and country music. But even more, he loved being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, John Shirley (Janet), Biloxi, MS, Douglas Shirley, Fountain, FL, Sandy Boyd (Stephanie), Andalusia, AL, and Beth Pribbenow (Rob), Panama City, FL, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jerry Abercrombie, Jeffery Dykes, Donnie Dykes, Jason Green, Wayne Mcgilvary, and Larry Dykes. Honorary pallbearers are David Abercrombie and Leo Dawson.
Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ross Boyd, parents Will and Burma Boyd, siblings Molly Boyd, Annie Mae Holloway, Jeremiah Boyd & Dorothy Nell Jerkins, son, Jim Shirley and daughter-in-law, Joan Shirley.
