Dwight David Steele, age 75, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Crestview, FL.He was one of six children born to Greeley Boaz Steele and Dessie Barrow Steele.

On September 19, 1962, David married his loving wife of 57 years, Martha Paul Steele.In the years to follow, David began his career as a lineman with Power Line Erectors in Yazoo City, MS.He and Martha returned home where he continued his work as a lineman at Eglin AFB and also began his career as a farmer.  As the responsibilities of the farm grew, he chose to focus solely on farming, which is where his heart was all along.David farmed up until this year when the progression of Alzheimer’s left him no option but to retire.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Greeley and Dessie Steele, siblings Jeanette, Loretta, John and brother-in-law, Hubert. He is survived by his wife, Martha Paul Steele, daughter Alicia Steele Cole and husband Dale, grandchildren, Rachel Cole Jenkins and husband Kellon, Caleb Cole and fiancé, Erica Rendell, and one great-grandchild, Davis Brooks Jenkins. David is also survived by his sisters Joan and Sharon, brothers-in-law Waylon (Brenda) and Roger (Debbie),and sister-in-law, Joan Faye (Ed), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David will be remembered for his love of his family and his passion for farming.

Funeral services will be directed by Keahey Funeral Home of Lockhart and will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Florala with Rev. James Pickron and Rev. Jerrod Jenkins officiating. Pallbearers will be Waylon Paul, Roger Paul, Twitchell Kimbrel, Jeff Goolsby, Kellon Jenkins, and Caleb Cole. Burial will follow at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Florala. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Keahey Funeral Home in Lockhart.  Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
