Cora Adams Obituary

Cora Lee (Odom) Adams, age 96, of Andalusia passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Andalusia Manor.

Cora Lee Odom was born August 6, 1921 to Green and Bonnie Odom in the Antioch Community of Covington County, Alabama.  She had seven siblings:  Lora Bee Shehand, JV Odom, LE Odom, OD Odom, Ashford Odom, Curtis Odom, and Willie C. Norsworthy.  She married Vernon King on December 19, 1936.  Cora Lee and Vernon moved into Andalusia in the 1940s and she was a member of West Highland Baptist Church for many years.  She started working at the “shirt factory” on River Falls Street in the late 1940s and worked there for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

Cora Lee and Vernon had three sons:  Avery Sherman King, Jimmy Dwight King, and Tony Winston King; and three grandchildren, Christina Lee King Horton of Maylene, Alabama, Mark Alan King of Houston, Texas, and Chad King also of Houston, Texas.  Cora Lee and Vernon divorced in 1961 and then in 1968, she married C.L. Adams of the Antioch Community.  She was now living less than a mile from the house she grew up in (small world).  She worked in her gardens and with her flowers, plus enjoyed fishing in the ponds out back of their house.  After C.L. had a stroke in 2003, she ran his small store plus took care of him until his passing in 2001.

Cora Lee had a stroke in 2003, but was able to recover to the point of living by herself again.  She later moved in with her son in Andalusia in 2004.  However, at the age of 92, her health got to the point where she moved into Andalusia Manor on June 11, 2013.

Memorialization is by cremation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia.
