Born the 3rd of 7 boys to James and Ruth Freeman, in Kingsport, TN, Tim moved with his father’s football coaching jobs until they settled in Muncie, IN.  After playing for his dad on an undefeated football team that led Ball State to the Grantland Rice Bowl, Tim graduated from Ball State and followed in his dad’s footsteps becoming a coach and history teacher.  Like his dad, (invited to play for the Cleveland Browns), Tim was invited to join the Washington Redskins, by Woody Hayes.  He chose instead to teach.  His teaching career began in Grantsburg, Wisconsin where he formed lifelong friendships with colleagues and players.  He earned his Masters degree also from Ball State and later became football, track and swim coach at Hamilton Southeastern High School, where he had the first girl diver on a boys swim team, for which he earned an interview with Jane Pauley.  He also taught special needs children at a high school in Atlanta, GA for one year.  Life changing events lead him to leave teaching and become the Athletic Director at the Muncie Boys and Girls Club.  After a few years there, he moved to Ozark, AL where he was executive director of the Ozark Boys and Girls Club, building the clubhouse and the program from the ground up and then also starting the Eufaula Boys and Girls Club.  The Ozark club was given national recognition through the arts program and had a finalist in the Youth of the Year program that took he and Maria Harris to meet with President Bush in the Oval Office just 9 days after the tragedies of 9/11.  He also met and married his wife of 20 years, Pamela Huff Freeman, while in Ozark.  They then moved with his 5th child  to Sedalia, MO where he rescued a Boys and Girls club from closure and served on the Governor’s Committee on after school programming.  He became ill and was given a few months to live.  So he and his family moved to Muncie to be around family and he was miraculously healed.  Then having moved back to the Ozark area, he began a long battle with heart and lung ailments, that were ultimately healed when Christ took him home to live with God forever on October 31st, 2017.  He loved his family, his church family and was always filled with the joy of living even on his hardest days.  He will be greatly missed.

Michelle (Jeff) Franciscovich of Fishers, IN, Timothy Aaron Freeman of Washington, DC and Pamela AliceMarie Freeman of Clio, AL; his grandchildren:  Andrew Thomas, Madeleine Franciscovich, Marilee Franciscovich, Macy Franciscovich, Josie Juarez, Sophie Juarez; his great-grandson:  Landen Eaton; his brothers, James “Jimmy” Freeman (Suzan) of Anderson, IN, Richard “Dick” (Susan)Freeman, Daleville, IN,  Michael “Mike” (Marcie)Freeman of Houston, TX, Jeff (Denice) Freeman of Indianapolis, IN, and Craig (Diane) Freeman, Indianapolis, IN; his sisters-in-law, Virginia (Brian), McClelland of Athens, GA, and Kay (William) Beck of State College, PA; his special Nephew:  Kent (Denise) Freeman of Daleville, IN; his special cousin:  Bernie Preamble, Atlanta, GA; his special friend:  Fred Cutlip of Clio, AL; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, James Andrew Freeman; his mother, Ruth Lee Ashton Freeman; his brother, Todd Freeman; and his grandson, Joey Thomas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, November 12, 2017, at First United Methodist Church of Ozark with The Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither and The Rev. David Walsh officiating.   Asked to serve as pallbearers are: Fred Cutlip, Albert Adams, Howell Brown, Jerry McGilvray, William Inman, John Morris, Joe Drawdy and AJ Robinette.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Jimmy Freeman, Dick Freeman, Mike Freeman, Jeff Freeman, Craig Freeman, Kent Freeman, Bernie Preamble, Steve Barstow, and Dave Faulk.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Timothy Freeman can be made to the PJ Freeman scholarship fund by sending gifts payable to Rev. Pamela Freeman, 47 Shaw Street, Clio, AL 36017, with scholarship noted on the memo line. 

The family will receive friends at 5:00 P.M. – one hour prior.   Interment will be at a later date in Texasville, AL.
